Because Indonesian is a widely-spoken, living language as well as a contact language for many other groups in the area, studying Indonesian oneself is easily accessible. Not only are there many online resources for learning Indonesian, but there is a vast amount of literature for studying it in a linguistic context as well. If you live in the United States near a metropolitan area or at a university, you are very likely near some native speakers yourself! Classes on Indonesian may also be available at your university. Below are some valuable internet resources provided by the chapter’s author, Robert Englebretson.
